Leo XIV has not responded to an audience request for the Roman rite pilgrimage to Rome. The organisers of the pilgrimage “to the See of Peter” in late October requested a papal audience nine months ago, reports Edward Pentin on his Substack-Account. The request was made in a letter signed by two lay members of the organisation. It was personally delivered by Bishop Athanasius Schneider when he met Leo XIV last December. In the same letter, the organisers asked for permission to celebrate a Pontifical Mass at the Altar of the Chair in St Peter’s Basilica, as had happened several times in the past. After repeated pleas for a response, the Secretariat of State on 7 August declined permission for the Mass in St Peter’s Basilica. No reason was given for the decision. New West Virginia bishop expands traditional Latin Mass. The bishop of Wheeling-Charleston, West Virginia, announced that the extraordinary form of the Mass will be celebrated on Sundays at a new site beginning tomorrow, in addition to the two current churches in which it is offered. Bishop Evelio Menjivar-Ayala also announced that the traditional Latin Mass will be offered in a fourth church, whose location is to be determined.

A bomb exploded outside the Greek Orthodox cathedral in Hama, Syria. The videos from the scene show the aftermath inside and outside St George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hama after a bomb exploded on 13 September, on the eve of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The blast shattered windows and damaged the church and nearby cars, but no one was killed or injured. Syrian authorities opened an investigation. No group has claimed responsibility.

Security camera footage shows a masked man placing the bomb underneath a car parked directly in front of the Greek Orthodox St. George’s Cathedral in Hama. The bomb exploded later that evening.
