As If Money Were Their Gospel: US Bishops Sue Trump Administration
They accuse the government of 'violating federal law'. The lawsuit (below) states that the bishops "cannot sustain its programs without the millions in federal funding".
"At the time of the suspension, there were more than 6,700 refugees assigned to USCCB by the government that were still within their 90-day transition period. As a direct result of the suspension, USCCB has millions of dollars in pending, unpaid reimbursements for services already rendered to refugees and is accruing millions more each week-with no indication that any future reimbursements will be paid or that the program will ever resume", they write.
The bishops is still waiting for $13 million in reimbursements for expenses incurred before January 24, according to the lawsuit.
The bishops' immigration agency has sent layoff notices to 50 employees. Additional cuts are in local Catholic Charities offices that partner with the national office.
The U.S. bishops are so busy promoting illegal immigration that it comes as no surprise that they don't have time to proclaim the Gospel.
