Kent began as a Sister of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), taught for 30 years at the Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles, but then styled herself as a "pop art nun". She left her order in 1968 and became a left-wing activist masquerading as an "artist". Cardinal James McIntyre (+1979) of Los Angeles called Immaculate Heart College "communist" and Sister Corita's work "blasphemous". Immaculate Heart College was dissolved in 1981.
